Just finished plastering a beautiful grade 2 listed cottage in Horsham that was suffering with severe damp issues.

Damp is a very common problem, particularly in older buildings and it can be caused by moisture from the ground, condensation, rain in fact any source of water. It soaks into walls and ceilings and damages the plaster and materials they are made of.

Choosing the right type of plaster is essential and on this job I used Lime Mortar as it draws out any moisture from the wall & releases it into the atmosphere. Traditional & Heritage materials such as lime mortar were used when the cottage was originally built and it’s really important to make sure original materials are used wherever possible in such a project. This finish can either be covered in natural paint or sealed with an organic glaze to keep the stone colour effect.

With fantastic oak beams and many original and traditional features, this really was a great building to work on. I love helping to restore beautiful old buildings so they can be a home for many more years to come.
